The Process
A methodical approach to every restoration
01
Consultation & Assessment
Initial review of the vehicle, provenance documentation, and collector goals. We establish scope, timeline, and budget with complete transparency.
02
Research & Documentation
Factory build sheets, historical photos, marque experts consulted. Every restoration begins with exhaustive research to ensure authenticity.
03
Disassembly & Inventory
Full teardown with photo documentation and cataloging of every component. This stage reveals hidden wear, prior repairs, and informs the restoration strategy.
04
Restoration & Craft
Metalwork, mechanical rebuild, paint, and upholstery executed by specialists with decades of experience. Work progresses deliberately, without shortcuts.
05
Assembly & Testing
Components reunited and systems validated. Road testing confirms mechanical integrity. Final detailing and quality review before delivery.
06
Archival Delivery
Comprehensive binder with photographic documentation, invoices, correspondence, and provenance records. The restoration story preserved for future stewards.
Philosophy
Restoration is research. Preservation is reverence.
At Douglas Restorations, we believe that every car carries a story written into its materials-factory markings, original finishes, the patina of careful use. Our work honors that narrative rather than erasing it.
A concours restoration demands meticulous research: factory archives, period photography, consultation with marque historians. We source correct materials, replicate long-discontinued finishes, and ensure every fastener matches the original specification. The goal is not perfection for its own sake, but fidelity to the car as it left the factory.
For unrestored survivors, preservation takes a different path. We stabilize rust without removing original paint. We document and retain factory markings. We distinguish between honest wear and destructive decay. The objective is to extend the life of an artifact without rewriting its history.
Both approaches require obsessive attention to detail, archival-grade documentation, and a willingness to invest years rather than months. This is slow work, deliberate work, work that refuses to compromise on authenticity.
Our job is not to remake the car. It is to ensure the car’s original story endures.
